Matt has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from Melbourne University (1982). With generations of farmers in his family Matt spent his childhood on a dairy and orchard. During his university studies and afterwards, Matt worked side by side with his father on the family rose and cattle farm. Matt was seeking a career in agricultural that extend beyond grow and sell, yet satisfied his love of science. After extensive research and attending short courses Matt planted the first vines in 1996 and discovered a love and talent in viticulture. The vineyard is all Matt’s own work, every post, wire and plant! Matt’s drive and passion is inspiring as evident in the wines he produces. Pictured, Matt and a row of vines There are now over 20 acres of vines of the following varieties: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Riesling and Chardonnay. Matt is presently studying Wine Science (Bachelor of Applied Science) by correspondence from Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. When Michelle and Matt married in 1999 who would have thought Michelle would change from dedicated Primary Teacher to Matt’s business partner. Besides producing quality wines, Matt and Michelle also produced Kathleen (Katie) in October 2000 and Patrick in November 2002. Matt has a 14 year old son, Ben, who shares his father’s love of science and is always keen to be side by side with his dad on the farm or at cellar door. Matt will complete his course in 2007; Michelle’s vision is not only seeing Toomah Wines go from strength to strength but to complete a Post Graduate Degree in Wine Business from Adelaide University. At Toomah Wines our aim is to produce fine wines and to offer these at cellar door for your enjoyment. We make it, grow it, drink it, sell it...and love it!
